Back from paradise.

Cave along the coast//Butterfly Island//View from my room//Sakilkent Gorge//Gorge water//Hellim Cheese Salad//Cute Shops in Fethiye//Oludeniz Blue Lagoon

After a week in paradise I am officially home to a very rainy Wigan. I thought I would dedicate my next few posts to my holiday, but for today I will just leave you with some photos from my wonderful holiday. If anyone is going to Oludeniz, Hisoranu or Fethiye you're in for a treat. This is going to be pretty short and sweet as I'm not going to return to lounging around with my pre-holiday blues.

Fig + Yarrow Bath Salts.

I'd seen these salts raved about by a few beauty bloggers so I was desperate to try them for myself. I adore my Burt's Bees bath salts and really wanted to try another brand. I love everything about Fig+Yarrow, their branding and ethics so these were an obvious choice for me. I actually got these off one of my friend for my birthday, which I was hugely grateful for.

Okay, first up, the packaging - I love the glass jar and simplistic design of the label. It looks so cute in my bathroom and I'm proud to have it out in my bathroom on show. I love the colour too, it's so pretty and is actually natural Pink Himalayan Salt which just looks perfect. The scent is so herbally (is that a word?!) and relaxing it just allows you to unwind and chill out in the bath tub.

The salts claim to lower blood pressure, relax aching muscles and reduce tension in your body. I tried them out this way after a long walk and they really do help. My muscles felt relaxed and much more comfortable that they did before I chilled out in the bath.

These salts have just made me want to try more of Fig+Yarrow's products, I'm desperate to try the infamous Coffee and Cardamom body scrub that Essie Button raves about! Or maybe I will just try and DIY it!

Have you tried anything from Fig+Yarrow?

Guest Post: Sunscreen.

No Instagram this week as I'm on holiday, so I have my third guest post instead!

Hi Everyone, my name is Katrin and I blog over at Tarte Aux Fraises. If you read my blog you might have noticed I am a very pale person, both by choice and by force.

I have noticed that every summer there are people that seem to have gotten a sunburn even though they claim that they use always sunscreen! I always start to wonder if they even know how to use sunscreen. There are couple of tricky parts. The trickiest part, in my opinion, is the amount you are actually supposed to use.

For example on your face (and neck) you should use one teaspoon of sunscreen every two hours! A teaspoon is 5 ml (0.17 fluid ounces), so a tube of 50 ml sunscreen for you face should technically only last for 10 uses!

The same goes for the rest of your body, for your arms you should use one teaspoon each, your legs should be covered in two teaspoon each and your torso should as well be lathered in two teaspoons. In total that is about 40 ml (1.35 fluid ounces) just for the body, and that is EVERY two hours!

Therefore, a normal bottle of sunscreen (240 ml) should only last for about 6 uses (12 hours) when you are for example at the beach!

So before you start thinking that you always get a sunburn, no matter what, start thinking about the amount of sunscreen that you are using! If you are looking for some more information I would start by reading this short article about the teaspoon rule.

Are you using enough of sunscreen?

Thank you to Katrin for this post about sunscreen, we all know how important keeping safe in the sun in and now we all know the right amount of sunscreen to be using!

Guest Post: Summer Picks.

Another guest post today, from the lovely Talia:

Hey guys I'm Talia and Katie is kindly letting me guest post for her today.
I currenntly have my own little Blog which you can follow via Bloglovin' and you can find me on Twitter , Instagram and Youtube !

1.|2.|3.|4.|5.

1. Ive seen the contour kit floating around and then I saw this 3 in 1 if you like and I NEED to get my hands on it. If theres one product im completely in love with its blusher/ bronzer and I think theyre lovely summer colours. Plus for £9.99 its an absolute bargain!

2. Again im absolutely in love with New look shoes because a) They have amazing Zara dupes for half the price at the min and b) they do some in wide (or are generally wider than zara shoes) yay for having hobbit feet ;)

3. This piece is so beautiful but completely out of my comfort zone! Im normally a monochrome kinda gal' but always love things like this and never have the confidence to wear them! I think I may pull my socks up and take the plunge!

4. THIS BAG. Now this is a little pricey at £85 but considering its real leather and suede I dont think its all too pricey, especially if it will last. I love the suede detail and gold hardware. I think its quite versatile too as in you can dress it up or down!

5. I need this in my life. Ive heard so many good things about this that the only bad thing is the price tag!
I think Ill be saving my coppers to give this one ago. Im a poor student!

Does anyone else have any of these products? let me know

 xx.

Thank you again Talia for your fab post!

Snake Print.

Vest - Primark £1.50
Trousers - TKMaxx £12.99

I showed these trousers in one of my hauls, but I thought I would do a little OOTD wearing them. I love the print and the material, they are so light and airy and just perfect for this summer weather. I'm struggling to decide what shoes to wear with them though, I think I may have to invest in some pretty sandals to match. I think these will look perfect paired with a cute cropped top on holiday too.

Have you found any gems in TKMaxx recently?

P.S If you are wondering if that is my Christmas tree in the background, you would be correct.

Guest post: Summer Nails.

Whilst I'm away on holiday I've got a few guest posts for you all. I requested a summer theme so I hope these all put you in the summery mood despite the British weather. First up is Sinead, how I would like to say a huge thank you to for such a colourful post.

Just a quick introduction before I start. I‘m Sinead and I blog here at http://fashionandbeautytribes.blogspot.co.uk, I blog about mainly beauty and sometimes life and fashion.

Summer is my favourite season of the month to play with my nails. I love to either go for a pastel or a bright neon colour. When painting my nails in the summer I tend to always do a mixture of colours on my nails for a more summery effect. In the photo above I have narrowed down some of my favourite nail polishes that I will be turning to during the summer months. A lot of the colours complement each other and would work well on both their own and together. A lot of the nail polishes are Barry M Gelly Hi Shine; this brand has some really pretty summer pastel shades out at the moment. These nail polish shades are very versatile and can be worn with glitter or confetti effect nail polish on top.

What are your favourite summer nails?

Thank you again Sinead,

Beauty Wants: Pretty in Pinks.

Untitled #52

I've never considered myself as a 'girlie' girl and to be honest I never wear pink, but this summer I'm really warming to it  (pardon the pun!). I'm loving the deep fuchsia pinks at the moment, I think they would go well with my hair colour, as well as gorgeous corals. I know The Damned lipstick from Topshop isn't strictly 'pink' I thought I would feature it anyway cos it's just too pretty to leave out. I've never tried a Topshop lippy but I've heard great things and they look super pigmented - I love the idea of the reactive lip tint in Crystal, it looks like it would have a gorgeous glossy finish.

I'm loving Collection/Collection 2000 at the moment, their new eyeshadow sticks are amazing and so inexpensive - I will review when I get home from holiday! I also saw Kate from DollyBowBow talking about Collection recently so I had to give the brand another go. Kate mentioned these Shimmer Shades in a video and now I'm desperate to get my hands on one. The Topshop Blush Stick looks like it would be a perfect base colour to work with too - it's also in the sale!

It's no secret how much I adore Bourjois, and their new lip ranges need to make their way into my life! I've heard so many things about the Colour Boost lip sticks I can't wait to try them out. The new-ish Rouge Edition lippy's are gorgeous too. They look so much more expensive than they are, they have amazing packaging and look really sophisticated, I really want to give these a go too.

Finally, no summer look would be complete without some gorgeos nails. I am a huge fan of the Barry M gelly nails (as are the rest of the blogging community), but I only currently have one colour so I'm certainly ready for another. Lastly, another Topshop pick but this time it's a Nail Varnish- they have such a good range of colours and from the few I've tried they have pretty good staying power for such a bargain price! What else could a girl need?

What beauty products are you loving?

Mint and Lace.

Green Dress - Get the Label
Cream Dress - Primark

I wandered around in the heat yesterday just to do some last minute holiday shopping. I overheard that Manchester was the hottest place in the UK yesterday and I can vouch for it being super hot - my car read 31 degrees. Of course I had to unpack a summer dress to feel nice and cool in. I chose this little number that I got form Get The Label a few months back. I love the colour and the detailing, it's really feminine and girly and really perfect for summer.

I thought I would take some photos in Primark dressing room (this seems to be a common thing for me!) and took one of this gorgeous dress I tried on too. Unfortunately I didn't buy it but I'm really regretting it now, fingers crossed it'll be there next time I pop in.

Also apologies for the boob shot but I just wanted to highlight the lacey detail!

What have you been wearing to keep cool?

Tesco Gradual Tan.

Tesco Radiant Body Lotion - £2.99

I can't believe I'm saying this, but I haven't need to apply any fake tan in over a week, thanks to the sun showing it's little face. So this review is based on my using this tan a few weeks back.

I've been struggling to find a tan that works for me. I'm all for wash off tans but I really wanted something a little more permanent. I've been asking around on Twitter and trying to find the best tan for that pre-holiday glow. Everyone that tweeted back suggested a gradual tan, as it's safer going in and out of the pool and should fade evenly (fingers crossed). I have a love hate relationship with gradual tan, I've found in the past it seems to smell more than the average fake tan. I've never go on with Dove's gradual tan and Johnsons was a pretty much no-go for me. I find I end up streaky and patchy and smell like digestives - not a great look.

I flitted with the Palmers gradual tan, but we all know how that ended - I stayed the same shade of pale for a week and then gave up. My fake tan hunt came to a stand still until I passed this tan in Tesco, for less than £3 how could I turn it down?

Is this the best budget gradual tan? I don't know. It's not the best tan I have ever tried but it's far better than the likes of Dove. It smells exactly like Johnsons Holiday Glow, which I don't have a huge issue with. The biscuity smell doesn't appear as strong and certainly doesn't linger around. The tan it's self is very subtle but not orangey which I was impressed with. Being super pale tans tend to turn a weird shade on me, but this one seemed to behave it's self.

I don't think this tan is good enough to wear pre-night out, but I do think it's good enough to use as an after sun on holiday to help 'extend' your tan and leave you glowing for longer. But for such a bargain price how can you say no?

DIY Summer Nails.

Varnish used:
Barry M Peach Melba
Barry M Mushroom
Models Own Tangerine Queen
Barry M Mint Green
NYC Topcoat

I know this isn't perfect but I don't think it's bad for a first attempt. If you follow me on Instagram (Katieatki) you may have already seen this nail art. This is the perfect nail art for beginners as it doesn't take too much precision and is pretty fun to do. I used a bobby pin to 'dot' on my pattern but I think if you had a steady hand you could do without. Doing this nail art has really made me want to invest in some nail art tools. I don't realise how much I miss painting my nails when I'm at uni, so I'm making the most of the summer.

I'd love to do some more basic nail art, do you ave any suggestions?

Retail Royalty Challenge.

Logo image from Google

As soon as I read about Money Supermarket's Retail Royalty Challenge I knew I really wanted to take part. The challenge involved Money Supermarket giving you £30 to buy something to donate to local charity of your choice. How fab is that?!

I knew immediately that I wanted to donate my £30 to Wigan and Leigh Hospice, not only is it local but I also spent some time there during my last placement and have seen first hand the amazing work they do. I thought the easiest way to find out if they needed anything was to give them a call. I spoke to one of the fundraisers who explained they needed raffle prizes and were looking for gift vouchers. Although my donation wasn't 'bartered' for and I didn't push to get as much as I could for my money, I really wanted to donate something they actually needed. I chose to get an M&S gift care - how gorgeous is this one? I thought M&S was a good all rounder and hopefully the winner will be able to get some good use of it.

I'm really happy I could take part in this challenge, I think it's great to give something back into the community and always great to give local charities a helping hand. So thank you very much Money Supermarket for helping me do a very good deed!

You can find out more about Wigan & Leigh Hospice here.

Humbug.

Dress - Republic £5

I just wanted to share another of one of my bargains. This little number was reduced to £5 in Republic sale - (I'm sorry if you've lost your job at Republic) but my bank balance appreciates the sale. I love that this dress looks pretty much identical to the Motel one that everyone seemed to have earlier this year. It's pretty thick material so not great for this weather but I still love it none the less and can't wait to wear it out. The hubby says I look like a referee in it, but I think it's more the Humbug look.

Sanctuary Salt Scrub.

Sanctuary Salt Scrub - Boots £11.50

Is everyone else taking advantage of this weather to get some photos outside? I've been snap happy this week and have so many posts planned with photos sat in my drafts. Anyway, today's post is dedicated to this little beauty. I got the salt scrub for my birthday and have really enjoyed using it. Firstly I love the packaging, it's so sophisticated and looks great sat in my bathroom, I don't feel like I have to hide it away and only get it out when I want to use it.

The scrub, as the name suggests, is a salt scrub that is quite fine so it isn't uncomfortable on your skin. The texture is really oily, which is something I love about it. I can't get enough of body oils and oil based products because I have super dry skin that just seems to drink it up. This leaves my legs shiny and soft but not greasy. The scrub certainly does it's job and really exfoliates my skin and leaves me flake free.

I do feel you need to use quite a bit of the product if you want to exfoliate your whole body, so this is saved for 'special occasions' and I revert back to my Soap & Glory scrub for more regular use.

Of course, this scrub has that signature Sanctuary scent, which I'm sure you all know, is one of my favourite scents. I am in love with everything I've tried from Sanctuary and think that it's amazing quality and value for such great products - I need more!

Have you tried this scrub?

Instagram #17

Another week of glorious sunshine, the weather has been amazing and I am so thankful to have finished uni for the year. I've been trying to make the most of the weather and have been spending lots of time outside in the sun and have been walking everywhere this week to kill some time until the hubby gets home from work. Lets see what I've been up to this week:

50p Tulips from Tesco
Strawberry Mojito in the sunshine
Yummy Popchips
Matching nails
Celebrating our 2nd Anniversary
My sunbathing view
SULLY!!
Home-ward bound for the day
Playing on the beach with my nieces

I'm well and truly ready for out holiday now, so I will probably spend this week packing and hoping we have everything we need. Fingers Crossed!

#Budget Bucket List.

When I saw Money Supermarket's new competition I had to enter. The competition is to write a bucket list, including one budget idea and one not so cheap, and the reason for not doing either of them. Before I start I am a student so my obvious reason for not doing the more extravagant idea is lack of money.

I'll start with my 'budget' bucket list item:

All images from Google

Cake Decorating Class - I would love to attend a cake decorating class. I'm a keen baker and love to make cakes and biscuits, I've just about mastered gluten free baking too, but my icing is atrocious. I can't describe how bad it is, I really struggle to use a piping bag so it just ends up being plonked onto the cake and I sued sweets to hind the hideousness of the decoration.

Learn another language - This is something I'm hoping to do over the summer. Obviously, I won't be fluent by September but at least back up to my GCSE standard in French. I loved learning a language at school and really regretted not following up to A-level with it. I'm not too bad with knowing words in French I just find it hard stringing a sentence together. I think we are incredibly lazy in this country, when it comes to learning other languages, we just expect people to speak English. Ideally next time I visit Paris I would love to be able to order food in their language.

Plant a seed and actually get something to grow - Okay, this is random, but I'm the least green-fingered person on Earth. However, I really want to be able to grow my own plants. I love seeing gardens full of gorgeous colours and our little patio just looks bare and not looked after. Hopefully one day I will actually be able to get something to grow and stay alive for more than a couple of minutes.

Moving onto more expensive things on my bucket list, that would be some of the things I would do if I won the lottery:

Visit a Orangutan Sanctuary in Malaysia - I've wanted to do this since I was little, in fact I was hoping to do a gap year when I was 18 but I met Jonathan and I couldn't bear to leave him for so long (cheesey I know). It's still something I would LOVE to do, the orangutans are just too cute, I think I would end up bringing one home. I would love to learn about the Malaysian culture too and spend some time exploring the country.

Take my hubby to Disneyland in Florida - I admit I'm being a little greedy on my bucket list here, I have been to Florida once before, but that was a whole ten years ago. I would love to show Jonathan the sights of Disneyland and all of the other theme parks. He's not too keen at the moment cos of the price but I'm attempting to persuade him because I know he would love it if I managed to get him there!

Own a Tiffany Necklace - This is kind of materialistic, but I would love a Tiffany necklace. I got a Tiffany bracelet for my 21st birthday and would love a necklace to go with it. There is something I love about going into Tiffany and just looking at all the jewellery, I'm desperate to go to the New York store but I thought that would be taking my bucket list a step too far!

That's some of the things on my bucket list, you can see the details of the Money Supermarket competition here.

I tag these bloggers to write their bucket list:
Emma from Glossy Boutique
Rachel from Lost in Lipstick

What's on your bucket list?

NYC Topcoat.

When my beloved Barry M top coat ran out, I thought I would give another brand a try, not thinking an would ever live up to my Barry M one. However, I was very much mistaken. I picked up this topcoat because a) it's extremely cheap and b) it was on offer with something else I wanted from the range. I'll be honest I wouldn't have been overly disappointed if this topcoat was rubbish, especially as it comes in well under £2 in Superdrug.

The polish its more watery than the Barry M topcoat, but to be honest I think I prefer it that way considering the Barry M one dries out pretty swiftish. It isn't too runny though that it's difficult to apply, this applies really well and really quickly. As the name implies this does seem to dry super fast, which is great if you are painting your nails before a night on the tiles, however for me this isn't the reason I love it so much.

The reason it's become such an important step in my nail routine, is because it does it's job just so damn well. I thought initially it was the varnish under the top coat that had great staying power, but when I tried one from another brand the same thing happened. I've found myself only changing my nail varnish cos I'm bored with it, not because it's chipped within an inch of it's life.

I'm so excited to have found this little beauty and it's become a firm favourite in my nail care routine, I'm now dying to try more of the NYC range!

Have you tried anything from NYC?

Di Palomo: Wild Fig & Grape.

Di Palomo Wild Fig & Grape Travel Essentials*

A few weeks back I was contacted and asked if I'd like to try anything from the Di Palomo website. Of course, I've heard of the Fig & Grape range from Di Palomo so I was desperate to try. I love the smell of Fig, it's so sweet but not overpowering so this set was really exciting.

The set comes with a conditioning shampoo, bath & shower gel, hand &body lotion, hand & nail cream, a cleansing bar and a bamboo fibre face cloth- all inside the cutest travel bag ever.

The range, as I expected smells delicious, it's the perfect summer scent. I love that all of the items are perfect size for me to take on holiday and give them all a 'proper' go. I've used the hand and nail cream a few times already and I'm really impressed, it's a fab size for me to just pop in my bag for on-the-go.

Have you tried anything from Di Palomo?
